West Lothian Schools Brass Band
The band received a standing ovation after their excellent performance at the Usher Hall on Sunday 2nd February 2004. This formed part of the very first concert by West Lothian Area Music Groups entitled “The Best Years of Our Lives”, compered by Bill Torrance (of Beechgrove Garden fame). They were praised highly by Scotland’s First Minister, Jack McConnell, who was only one of many dignitaries in the audience.
The band commenced their section of the programme with a world premiere of their specially commissioned march “The West Lothian” by Goff Richards. They followed this with “Sun” by Bruce Fraser, the Baritone solo played by Katrina Marzella. Their final piece was “Gaelforce” by Peter Graham.
The band also took centre stage for the Finale - Highland Cathedral, which was led by Claire Lynas on bagpipes. All members of the participating music groups combined on stage to produce a stirring performance and they were later accompanied by members of the Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band. The only fault in the whole performance was the failure of the balloons and confetti which were meant to cascade down during the finale!
