West Lothian Schools Brass Band
‘The Vikings meet the Celts’
Howden Park Centre, Livingston.
13th November 04
The concert commenced with the ‘Celts’ - The West Lothian Schools Brass Band, getting things off to a rousing start with ‘Star Wars’. Nigel Boddice commented on the fact that the band were in excellent form after their German Tour. This was followed by an excerpt from the Braveheart Suite, Gealforce and Queen Rules. They were joined by a member of the ‘Vikings’ who played trombone solo on Carrickfergus.

The second half of the concert featured the ‘Vikings’ - Molde Brass from Norway, who were celebrating the band’s 25th birthday. They were assisted by three members of the West Lothian Band. They gave us an excellent and varied programme including West Side Story, La Callifa featuring an excellent Soprano Cornet solo, The Children of Sanchez, featuring WLSBB’s Caroline Munroe on Trumpet solo and a very unusual and entertaining Bass Trombone Solo on an excerpt from Jungle Book - ‘I wanna be like you’.
The two bands then combined for the spectacular ‘Valdres March’ and they in turn were joined by Claire Lynas for the traditional rousing finisher ‘Highland Cathedral’.
