As part of the West Lothian Spring Concert Series 2004, the West Lothian Schools Brass Band performed along with the West Lothian Scools Jazz Ensemble and the NYCoS West Lothian Girls & Boys Choirs in the third concert in the series.
The concert was well attended, and the audience included specially invited guests from France, Germany and Poland.
The band performed both the set piece and their elected piece which they will play in the forthcoming National Championships in Manchester on the 3rd April 2004, and a selection of other well known pieces, previewing tracks from their soon to be released CD.
The set piece was the first item on offer - Partita: Postcards from Home by Philip Wilby.
There then followed a complete change in style, with the bands rendition of Lokk from the Green Island by Torstein Aagaard-Neilsen.
The band then performed their elective piece for Manchester - Shine as the Light by Peter Graham.
After receiving a completely unexpected standing ovation (?!), the band then played some pieces which demonstrated the strength of it’s soloists. Isla Cameron gave an excellent performance of Serenata on the Euphonium, which was followed by a very well received Marimba solo by excellent percussionist Kenny Carlyle who gave us the Flight of the Bumble Bee.
The final piece was the upbeat theme music from a Norwegian Children’s Charity television programme, Redd Barna, which was specially arranged for the band.
