We were treated us to an excellent festive performance by the band at their traditional Christmas fund-raising concert at St Margaret’s Academy in Livingston. Many of the traditional festive favourites were performed with the professionalism we have come to expect of this band.
The band now has a younger look to it as it now features many younger players who have graduated into the main band to replace those who have had to leave due to their age. Despite the change in personnel, the standard of performance was not diminished.
Nigel Bodice took the opportunity to give some of the younger players a chance to shine, by featuring them in a variety of solo spots during the concert.
An added bonus was a guest appearance from Caroline Munroe, who gave us a reminder of her fantastic talents by performing trumpet solo on Charivary. This final guest appearance marks the end of her association with the band and the audience showed their appreciation with rapturous applause.
As a fund-raising event, the evening was also very successful. The efforts of the Friends on the raffle, tombola and tea & coffee stalls raised over £1000. Also on sale were copies of the band’s latest CD - Earthrise. Have you got your copy yet? If not, click here for details.
