West Lothian Schools Brass Band
Concert with East Sussex Youth Band
St Margaret’s Academy, Livingston, Saturday 30th August 2008
For the first concert of the Autumn 2008 season, West Lothian Schools Brass Band joined forces with the East Sussex Youth Band in St. Margaret’s Academy, Livingston on Saturday 30th August 2008.
The first half of the concert featured the East Sussex Youth Band, who entertained the audience with some well known favourites.
After a short interval, it was the turn of West Lothian Schools Brass Band to take to the stage.

The WLSBB programme began with the New Orleans style “Just a Closer Walk”. This was followed by “Toccata in D minor” by J.S. Bach.
The band then treated the audience to the world premier of “Prelude and Capriccio for Baritone and Band”. This piece was written by Paul Drury and was commissioned specially for Frazer Kirk, the band’s principal Baritone to celebrate his 18th birthday.
There followed a selection of three Scottish pieces - “Carrick Fergus”, “The Reel McCoy” and The Gael”. Nigel Boddice did however manage to persuade one of the members of the East Sussex band, who just happened to be sporting a kilt for the occasion, to get up and perform some Scottish dancing to complete the Scottish picture!
The honorary Scotsman decided that he wasn’t going to dance alone however, and convinced a second member of the East Sussex Band to join him!
To round off the evening, the bands combined to perform John Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare & Theme”, excerpts from “The Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Vitae Lux” and “The Conquest of Paradise” by Vangelis provided a fitting climax to a great evening’s entertainment.
